'Green Lantern Corps' cast news: Screenwriter Michael Green wants 'American Gods' star to play John Stewart

One of the DC Comics properties that fans are anticipating are the Green Lantern Corps, which is part of the DC Films slate. Many fans have their own idea of who should portray the two main Lanterns, Hal Jordan and John Stewart. Even the "Green Lantern" movie's co-writer Michael Green has someone in mind for the latter.

The "Green Lantern Corps" movie is silently but steadily in development, and Green has expressed his desire for another shot at the film. Speaking to Yahoo Movies, Green shared that his experience on "Green Lantern" was not finished, and that there were still stories to tell. Green went on to say that it was a film that did not turn out the way they hoped, so there is that desire to make it better this time around.

As to whom he thought would be a good choice to play a Green Lantern, Green revealed that "American Gods" star Ricky Whittle would be a good pick for John Stewart.

"I'll probably get angry texts if I don't say what's in my heart, which is that Ricky Whittle would make a fantastic John Stewart," said Green.

There is someone who has been pushing for the role too. "Fast and the Furious" star Tyrese Gibson has constantly expressed his interest in playing John Stewart. After over two years, Gibson is still determined as ever to play the Green Lantern. He even launched a campaign on social media back in 2015 for him to land the role of John Stewart.

The model turned actor has also posted fan art imagining him in the iconic outfit on Instagram. "I am fully committed to suiting up for this adventure," wrote Gibson on the caption. It got quiet since then until in May, where Gibson shared another fan art of himself on Instagram, in the costume with glowing green eyes. "It's time," he wrote in the caption.

The "Green Lantern Corps" movie is scheduled to premiere in 2020.
