Rockstar Games' "Grand Theft Auto" series has been very successful that it spawned five installments to date. Players continue to enjoy "GTA V," with the game studio continuously providing additional content packs. Still, the fans are wondering if Rockstar will release the next "GTA" sequel very soon, as it has been a while since the fifth entry was released. Based on the rumors, "Grand Theft Auto VI" is happening, but it is not expected to arrive earlier than 2022.

While no one has an idea when "Grand Theft Auto VI" will be released, a reputable analyst from Wedbush Securities, Michael Pachter, shared his thoughts regarding the matter. In an interview with Gaming Bolt, Pachter said that if ever Rockstar plans to make a "GTA V" follow-up, the game is not likely to launch anytime soon. According to him, the game could be out sometime around the year 2022, but he gives more weight on the possibility of "Grand Theft Auto VI" being released later than that.

Pachter took Rockstar's other huge game title, "Red Dead Redemption 2," as an example, saying that the studio needed eight long years to develop the sequel after the original title was released. For now, the fans are hoping that "Grand Theft Auto VI" will arrive over the next few years, possibly before 2021, to which Pachter deems impossible. In fact, the analyst thinks that when Rockstar finally announces the release date for "GTA VI," the public should expect at least a one-year lag.

"The only announcements they've ever made more than a year before launch was because the launch itself was delayed. So best case, 'GTA 6' gets announced in 2020 for a 2021 release," Pachter said.

Meanwhile, there are speculations that "Grand Theft Auto VI" will feature more than one city, unlike the previous titles that focused on a single location. While the previous "GTA" games featured a single poster city such as Miami and Las Vegas, "GTA VI" could possibly include all major cities in the United States. With this, the game map is expected to be much larger, and so does the actual size of the game. It is also rumored that "Grand Theft Auto VI" will be the first in the franchise to showcase the first non-US location such as Tokyo City and London.
