As of the moment, there still continues to be no official announcement regarding the development status of the long-awaited sixth main installment in the "Grand Theft Auto" video game franchise, "Grand Theft Auto 6." The game's developer, Rockstar Games, has been keeping silent regarding its plans for the new game and has instead been focusing much of its marketing efforts on its latest titles.

Rockstar recently unveiled their equally anticipated open world western-themed sequel video game, "Red Dead Redemption 2," and it seems like most of the company's focus is now on the game itself and its scheduled launch next year. Several rumor reports have revealed that Rockstar may be sticking to their usual release schedule which means that "Grand Theft Auto 6" may be still be a long way off from being announced.

Reports have claimed that the game itself could be coming out in 2019 or in early 2020. Some users on Reddit however are more realistic and have claimed that Rockstar may want to take its time in developing the highly awaited sequel in order for it to meet the high expectations of its fans. Some of the people in the discussion thread on the website even mentioned a possible 2021 or 2023 release date.

If the company does follow its standard release schedule, then "Grand Theft Auto 6" may be released as early as 2018 or as late as 2019. This is based on the previous release pattern of the sequel's predecessors, which typically had 5-year intervals between each release. "Grand Theft Auto 4" was launched back in 2008, which was then followed by the release of "Grand Theft Auto 5" in 2013. Despite all the speculations and rumors regarding the game's release date, without any confirmation from the company themselves, the most that fans can do as of the moment is to just wait for an official announcement regarding a confirmed release date.
