As all the characters take their next few steps into becoming the people they are known to be in the future, the upcoming episode of "Gotham" season 4 hints some interesting character developments.

The fourth episode of season 4, titled, "The Demon's Head," reveals that Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) ends up putting lives at risk in an attempt to discover the meaning behind the knife he won from the auction. The previous episode saw him outbid Barbara Kean (Erin Richards) for the knife that turned out to belong to R'as al Ghul (Alexander Siddig) during the auction at the Iceberg Lounge.

Speaking of R'as al Ghul, he will prove that he will stop at nothing to get his hands on the knife. He turns out to be the one bankrolling Barbara's weapon business, and it seems like over the time frame that he brought her back to life, he has been mentoring her; and from what the previous episode showed, training her how to fight even. It also seems like they have a very special relationship, going beyond the borders of a business one. Knowing that Bruce has the knife, this will lead to more interactions between the two of them.

In the meantime, Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) will continue to try and dethrone Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) from his perch as the king of the city's criminal underworld and in the process, finds an ally in Sofia Falcone (Crystal Reed). It seems that when everyone meets her, she is set on following her father's footsteps while her brother Mario (James Carpinello) heads to medical school and becomes a doctor. Knowing that her father dearest Carmine (John Doman) is close to death, it does pose a question as to what her intentions are.

Moving more into what else is going to happen in the episode, some non-spoiler teases from Hypable indicate that in the midst of Bruce's search to find answers behind the knife, he turns to the historian in the Gotham Natural History Museum and even befriends his grandson. This will force him to make some decisions that will change him after this encounter.

As for Sofia, Penguin will definitely get word that she is in town and he will immediately become suspicious. The two of them will meet and he will accuse her for trying to take over Gotham to regain her father's criminal empire. Of course, that is to be expected knowing her family.

Barbara, on the other hand, is getting a little sidelined in this one. Even though she is trying to get back some of the power she once had, R'as is revealed, at least to the viewers, to be her anonymous financier. She pretty much owes R'as her life and seems to be under his control.

Knowing that she failed to get the knife back for him, R'as will bring some help to get it done. It does put her back in Gordon's orbit though, and the two of them will catch up. Gordon will be particularly interested to see how she has changed, perhaps for the better? Maybe.

Last but not least, Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith). The previous episode was when he had come out of the ice after being frozen for five months. He woke up confused and a little bit broken, both on the inside and out. Despite getting his body working again by the end of the previous episode, his mind is still in knots in the upcoming installment. He will be determined to get his mind back in working condition in the upcoming episode.

"Gotham" season 4 airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. EDT on FOX.
