The eighth episode of "Gotham" season 4 brings Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) closer to his future self, career-wise. However, that step in his career will cost him. Spoilers from the current episode below.

Episode 8 is titled "Stop Hitting Yourself" and the official synopsis reveals that Jim will be offered the position of Gotham City Police Department captain. However, this offer will put him at odds with his partner and the current GCPD captain Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue). Their friendship has been heavily strained in the previous episode as well as the episode that just aired, when Bullock revealed that he was also getting money from Oswald Cobblepot's (Robin Lord Taylor) crime licensing system.

The current episode continued to reveal the strain between them. While Jim insists on maintaining justice through honest means, Bullock still believes in Oswald's crime system and is willing to enlist the help of his hired guns to do it. Despite Jim saving Bullock in the midst of the flying bullets, the difference in their ideologies continued to drive a wedge between the two friends. It appears that the upcoming episode will continue to drive them further apart as well.

Speaking of Oswald, he is out for revenge when he gets word of what Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) is doing on stage and gets the help of the Sirens to do it. Nygma alongside Solomon Grundy (Drew Powell) have become the main attractions at Cherry's Place in The Narrows. While Grundy is fighting his way for cash, Nygma is entertaining the crowd by mocking Oswald.

Meanwhile, Cerveris revealed that Professor Pyg has only begun his reign of terror. Speaking to CBR, the actor shared that what makes Pyg different from Jim Gordon's other foes is attributed to the strange connection he has with the future commissioner. Cerveris went on to say that Pyg sees Jim as a mirror image of himself rather than being enemies and that Pyg believes that he is getting into Jim's head a little more.

Cerveris also revealed that Professor Pyg's motives will be revealed bit by bit over the course of the season along with his backstory. However, there will also be some misdirection and diverting of attention to the character because Pyg is not a completely mysterious character.

When it came to the villain's inevitable encounter with Oswald, Cerveris explained that there is going to be a face off. Pyg, from what the previous episodes have shown, is bent on trying to rid Gotham city from dirty cops and other ill-doers, problems that Oswald is trying to keep in place.

Apart from Jim, Oswald and the rest of the people in the GCPD, Pyg's story arc will involve more characters and storylines that might not appear to be related, but actually are.

"Gotham" season 4 airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. EDT on FOX.
