Google Nexus 7 latest news: launch of new rebranded 'Pixel 7' tablet may coincide with Andromeda OS this week

There is understandably a lot of anticipation for the next-generation Google Nexus 7 tablet as the previous models have proven to be quite a popular mid-end alternative to the sea of Android tablets available in the market.

This year's model, however, looks to be an entirely different offering as Google is not just going to be rebranding the tablet, but also reportedly adding a new type of operating system called the Andromeda OS.

The new operating system has been described as a marriage of the company's own Android mobile operating system and its Chrome OS. The Andromeda OS is expected to be integrated into the company's new Pixel 3 laptop sometime in late 2017, but it seems that the OS might be released earlier and reportedly integrated into the company's latest tablet device.

As for the tablet itself, previous reports have revealed that it could be part of Google's rebranding plan and that it might not be sporting the "Nexus" moniker when it is released. Some reports have even gone as far as referring to the new tablet as the Pixel 7.

Reports have also revealed that Huawei has been put in charge of creating the tablet this year. This will likely mean that it might have a design that is close to the company's other products, such as last year's Nexus 6P smartphone.

The upcoming Pixel 7 is rumored to be coming out within the week — more specifically on Oct. 4 — during a big launch event hosted by Google. The event will also likely be the venue for the company's new Google Daydream VR platform and its new internet-connected Google Home device. There are also reports that have claimed that the company may also be launching their latest ex-Nexus smartphone devices, the Google Pixel and the Pixel XL, during the event.
