Game Awards 2017 news: 'The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild' named 'Game of the Year'

The annual "Game Awards" is here again. As per usual, the awards ceremony recognized and honored the best games of the year.

This year's game awards was hosted by the Canadian video game journalist Geoff Keighley. The event was held on Dec. 7 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, CA.

"The Game Awards" 2017 gave "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" three awards. These include "Best Game Direction", "Best Action/Adventure Game", and the very prestigious "Game of the Year" award.

"Best Action Game" was awarded to the "Wolfenstein" sequel, "Wolfenstein 2: New Colossus". "The Game Awards" gave "Injustice 2" the "Best Fighting Game" award.

The "Best Strategy Game" award was given to "Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle". Similarly, "The Game Awards" gave "Super Mario Odyssey" the "Best Family Game" award.

Even the upcoming game "The Last of Us Part 2" was given the "Most Anticipated Game" award by "The Game Awards". The game is a sequel to the 2013 game "The Last of Us" which garnered over 240 "Game of the Year" awards from various award giving bodies.

The new indie game "Cuphead" also got "The Game Awards'" attention and received two awards. These are the "Best Indie Debut Game" and "Best Art Direction" awards.

The "Game Awards" also noticed the Chinese game "JianXia 3 HD" and was awarded the "Best Chinese Game." "JianXia 3 HD" is a massive multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) remake developed and published by Kingsoft.

Lastly, "Resident Evil 7: Biohazard" received the "Best VR/AR Game" award of 2017. Capcom reported via Road To VR that "Resident Evil 7: Biohazard" has the most PlayStation Virtual Reality (PSVR) players amounting to 475,000 individuals – an astounding number compared to other VR games released on the PlayStation console.
