Despite having been out for a little less than a week, "Dragon Ball FighterZ" is already showcasing some overwhelming power in the fighting game community by becoming the most played fighting game on Steam ever.
On Jan. 27, the launch day of "Dragon Ball FighterZ" for PC and consoles, Arc System Works' latest anime fighter hit a massive peak of 44,234 active players according to Steam Charts. This cements it as the most played traditional fighter in the Steam store right now, with "Tekken 7" taking second place at only 18,766 players at its highest. Even "Street Fighter V," the granddaddy of all 2D fighters, cannot compete with those numbers as its highest was only 13,807 active players.
Admittedly, this should not come too much of a surprise. "Dragon Ball FighterZ" not only has the advantage of being a very solid fighting game, it is also a "Dragon Ball" game, one of the biggest franchises in the world. In addition to that, this newest title just might be the fighting game that "Dragon Ball" fans have been waiting for because it was developed by one of the best 2D fighter developers in the industry, Arc System Works.
Even if someone is not too interested in fighting games, "Dragon Ball FighterZ" also offers a surprisingly engaging single player campaign that comes with an original storyline that any "Dragon Ball" fan would enjoy. The game is also aesthetically pleasing to any fans of the show as it perfectly replicates the style of the source material.
Now, the only question is if it will be able to maintain these numbers in the months to come, especially as hype dies down and the less competitive players start to leave after finishing all the single player aspects of the game. Only time will tell, although there are still a lot of downloadable contents that are set to arrive in the coming months which will be sure to keep fans interested in the game.
