The rumor mill suggests that Peter Capaldi, the twelfth Doctor in the sci-fi series "Doctor Who", might be leaving the show after this upcoming season. If that proves to be true, he will be leaving with executive producer and lead writer Steven Moffat who will be replaced by Chris Chibnall. Months ago, Capaldi did say that season 10 might be his last season in an interview by The Telegraph.
But according to Moffat, he can't see that he will write Capaldi's regeneration. "I have no reason to suppose that I'm writing out a Doctor! Peter is loving the role, and long may he do so," he said in the latest Doctor Who magazine.
Capaldi, in an interview by BBC Radio Scotland, said that he had been asked to stay for the eleventh season under Chibnall's tutelage but admitted that he would have to make a decision if he is hard-pressed to do it. "To be perfectly honest, it's so far away in the future... you know, Doctor Who is a very difficult thing to say goodbye to -- and I don't want to make that decision right now," he said.
Along with these rumors of Capaldi's regeneration, there is also an ongoing speculation about the show casting their first woman Doctor after 53 years of male doctors. Chibnall would have that decision for season 11 and fans may yet to know if the thirteenth Doctor would be portrayed by an actress or if Capaldi will continue for his fourth season.
Matt Smith, who portrayed the eleventh Doctor, said in an interview that a female could portray the next installment's 13th Time Lord. He also gave the supposed actress a bit of advice. "So practice, practice, practice. And talk really fast. And think really fast. And be really brave. And mad. And silly. And good luck maybe it will be you," he said in an interview by the Guardian.
The cast and crew were done shooting the first and second episode in various foreign locations. Fans may yet to know an exact air date but season 10 could probably be released in 2017. Viewers who can't wait to see the return of the Twelfth Time Lord can expect a Christmas special which is viewed annually on December 25.
