At the Nintendo Direct last Jan. 11, Nintendo ended the presentation by announcing that "Dark Souls: Remastered" will be coming to the console this coming May.

The announcement came quite a shock to the audience, as Nintendo has a reputation for supporting mostly first-party games and titles. Together with the announcement, Nintendo released a new trailer for the refurbished version of the game.

Nintendo has already published an elaborate description of the game on their official website. "Re-experience the critically acclaimed, genre-defining game that started it all," the description reads. "Beautifully remastered, return to Lordran in stunning detail."

According to Nintendo, "Dark: Souls Remastered" will include the "Artorias of the Abyss" DLC, where the player must search for the long-lost pendant of Manus and defeat the corrupted Knight Artorias. Nintendo Switch players should also expect a much improved "framerate and resolution" compared to the original version of the game.

The Switch version will also expand its multiplayer experience to up to six players. "Whatever your motivations are to play online – collaboration or confrontation, support or betrayal – you'll find your true home among the nine covenants. Which allegiance will you choose?" The multiplayer experience will be seamless as long as all joining players are hooked up to dedicated servers.

"Dark Souls: Remastered" will be the first version of the franchise to come to the Switch seven years after it was originally released to PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Microsoft Windows. It's the series' first portable entry, and it's yet to be announced whether the other succeeding versions of the franchise will be coming to the Switch as well.

The title will join the list of other third-party games to be released on the Switch such as the upcoming "Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus," "Payday 2", and last year's releases "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" and Doom.

"Dark Souls: Remastered" will be released on May 25 on Nintendo Switch. It was also announced by at the Nintendo Direct that the game would release to PS4 and Xbox One as well.
