Colton Dixon feels 'sad' that 'American Idol' is ending

Colton Dixon is working on his new single 'Through All of It.'

Christian artist Colton Dixon is just one of the many singers who got the jumpstart they needed in their careers from the talent competition "American Idol," and this is why Dixon is feeling pretty "sad" that the long-running TV singing show will soon be ending.

In an interview with Breathe Cast, Dixon also talked about his recent nomination as Male Artist of the Year during the K-LOVE Fan Awards.

Dixon said he still could not explain to himself how he managed to get nominated, considering that he ran against fellow Christian artists he had grown up admiring like Steven Curtis Chapman, Matthew West, Chris Tomlin, Jeremy Camp, and Crowder.

"I still think they got it wrong," he jokingly said. "I grew up listening to these guys. All of those artists in my category I grew up listening to. It's just weird, it's awesome. To win would have been even more awesome."

The award eventually went to Tomlin, but Dixon is fine with that and has actually begun working on his new single "Through All of It," which will be released in weeks to come. Dixon has asked fans to share their personal stories on his Facebook and Twitter accounts, and he selected the best ones to use in his music video.

"I'm just so excited for you guys to see God working in someone else's life, and some of these stories are just rough," he said.

One of the stories that truly touched Dixon's heart is about a person named Ben who struggled with cancer five to six times in his life already, and he is only in his twenties. Through the process, Dixon and Ben managed to forge a friendship, and Dixon is pretty impressed with Ben's endurance and faith. "Just to see the joy of God on his face, it's unbelievable," he said.
