CES 2018 news: Acer showcases 'thinnest laptop in the world,' along with two other remodels

Acer is one of the active participants of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this year. Aside from the remodel of the Chromebook 11, they also have updates for three other laptops. All three models are to be showcased at CES 2018.

First is the Swift 7, which Acer advertises as the "thinnest laptop in the world." This may very well be true, as the laptop's thickness only measures 8.98 millimeters (mm).

However, the Swift 7 does not really have that much going for it other than its thinness. It still sports a 7th Generation Intel Core i7, while other computers in the similar price range (like the Dell XPS 13) have 8th Generation Intel processors. Its display is updated form 13.3 inches to full 14 inches, but it still only supports 1080p display.

However, it does have an edge over other laptops in terms of wireless connectivity. It supports 4G LTE, a connection protocol that is surprisingly rare on laptops.

Meanwhile, those who like to try gaming will probably like Acer's Nitro 5 model.

This model's graphics card is updated to the AMD Radeon RX560, and it is run by AMD Ryzen mobile processors. Maximum random access memory (RAM) size for this model is 32 GB, while storage can be up to 512 GB. Both components are configurable.

For its $799 price tag, the Nitro 5 is a decent gaming computer.

Another model from Acer is the Spin 3. This computer gets an 8th Generation Intel Core processor. While the Swift 7's display was expanded, Spin's was shrunk from 15.6 inches to 14 inches. It only still supports up to 1080p resolution, although the Spin 3 is special in that its display can turn into a tablet, much like a hybrid model.

The Spin 3 will be available in February while the Swift 7 will be available for purchase in March.

The Nitro 5 will be available for purchase in April.
