Candace Cameron-Bure defends virgins: 'This is about wanting to honour God'

When 22-year-old Christian bride Brelyn Bowman gave her father a "certificate of purity" during her wedding day to prove that she maintained her virginity before getting married, Brelyn was lambasted on social media for being "creepy" and "disturbing."

Brelyn shared a photo on her Instagram account (@brefree) of her dancing with her father during her wedding night. She writes, "Another one of my favs! Dancing with my first love! I was able to present a certificate of purity to him signed by my doctor that my hymen was still intact. Also the covenant he gave me when I was 13. When you honour God, your life will automatically honour others! I love you daddy."

Several Christians lauded Brelyn's feat, but others who shared opposing views simply thought that she was "crazy."

The girls from "The View" discussed Brelyn during their Thursday episode, and host Candace Cameron Bure thinks that maintaining a vow of celibacy isn't as shocking as some people think it is.

"There are a lot more virgins out there than people realise. I have a lot of girlfriends, and know of guys, that are in their 30s that still have their virginity," Bure said. "It's not a surprise to me, but that's also the types of friendships and groups of people or people within the church communities. So it's very familiar, so it is not shocking to me."

When her co-host Joy Behar said that maintaining one's virginity until they are in their 30s or 40s is "a little bit much," Bure replied, "Who is anyone to say? This is really about a relationship between them and wanting to honour God."

"I don't know that I would have posted that on Twitter," Bure continued. "But I think she was honouring her mother and father, wanting to keep that promise to them as she goes on to her husband."
