Contrary to "Big Little Lies" director Jean-Marc Vallée's statement last April about his refusal to do another season of the award-winning HBO limited series, the director seems to be retracting his stance following the number of awards the show has received in this year's Emmys.
"No, no, this is the perfect ending. There is no way; there's no reason to make a Season 2. That was meant to be a one-time deal, and it's finishing in a way where it's for the audience to imagine what can happen. If we do a season two, we'll break that beautiful thing and spoil it," he initially told Vulture.
However at the backstage of the Emmys, he expressed his desire to reunite the team behind the show once again. Although a recent report by TV Line said that the director will not be coming back for the second iteration of the show due to scheduling conflicts. Apparently, a female director is currently in search by the production team.
"Big Little Lies" season 2 is apparently confirmed and will be starting its production in spring 2018. Although HBO is yet to acknowledge the news, sources revealed that the second season of the show is indeed happening, following its massive success in garnering eight wins and 16 nominations at the Emmys in September.
According to the show writer David E. Kelley, the second season is on its way to the final scheduling stage. "We're kicking around ideas and trying to lasso the talent [and] get the band back together," he said. "It's just a lot of logistical things. But I'm optimistic because everyone wants to do it. We feel we still have storytelling to do. No decision has been made yet, but we're hopeful. Where we left it, I felt like it did open the opportunity for a lot more storytelling."
The cast has also remained tight-lipped over the whole thing, but they have expressed their desires in continuing the award-winning series. Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, and Shailene Woodley are all open to the idea, but so far have not commented on the finalization of the whole project.
