Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that the 2019 A-Class will be arriving in the United States as the German automaker's new entry-level vehicle.

Previously, if U.S customers wanted a vehicle with the three-pointed star, their only choice for an entry-level sedan was the CLA Class — which was rather underwhelming for its expensive price tag. With the increased sales of compact sedans, however, Mercedes-Benz has finally decided to bring the A-Class to the United States.

"We truly believe that now with the body style we have the right answer for the market," Mercedes-Benz's global sales chief Britta Seeger told Automotive News. "It's a very attractive car for younger people. But not only for younger people — it can have a broad audience because it's a nice entrance into the Mercedes-Benz family."

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan is scheduled to arrive next fall and prospective customers will have a lot to look forward to. The upcoming vehicle will be inspired by the Concept A Sedan, which was unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show in April.

Based on the concept vehicle, the new A-Class will have a more modern and streamlined design. With tighter proportions and a significant reduction of surface lines and creases, the compact sedan will showcase the latest iteration of Mercedes-Benz's "Sensual Purity" design language.

The 2019 A-Class sedan will be built using an updated version of the automaker's modular front architecture (MFA) platform. It is also expected to be offered with a variety of turbocharged four-cylinder engines with a front-wheel-drive system.

Meanwhile, the German automaker recently released teaser images featuring the new A-Class' cabin. Despite the A-Class being an entry-level sedan, it will be equipped with luxurious features usually found on the more premium E-Class and S-Class models. The cabin will have a free-flowing design, an avantgarde dashboard, a multifunctional steering wheel and ergonomic seats, among others.

It has been suggested the 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class will have a starting price of under $30,000, but Seeger declined to confirm or deny the reports. "We will see," the executive said.
