Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has released official photos of the 2019 Jeep Cherokee. These images offer a sneak peek at the refreshed SUV ahead of its debut next year.

Specific details regarding the upcoming vehicle are still being kept tightly under wraps until the formal unveiling at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January 2018. However, the promotional images give a detailed look at the 2019 Jeep Cherokee's exterior design.

According to the automaker, the refreshed midsize SUV will feature an upscale design and will be offered with more fuel-efficient powertrains. While the latter has yet to be confirmed, the forthcoming vehicle appears to have received a significant makeover.

The 2019 Jeep Cherokee's front fascia has been updated. The outgoing model's stacked lighting configuration has been replaced with wide-open headlights. This makes the upcoming SUV look more similar to other Jeep vehicles such as the Compass and Grand Cherokee. Meanwhile, the 2019 Jeep Cherokee features some minor changes at the rear such as a more streamlined design, a redesigned bumper and new taillights.

A single photo of the new SUV's cabin shows that not much has changed, which is not that disappointing considering that the nameplate's current interior design has been received positively.

Though details are still scarce at this time, Mike Manley, head of Jeep Brand at FCA, has spoken about the important role the 2019 Cherokee will play for the automaker.

"Cherokee for me is really important for the brand as well because it enters the biggest SUV segment in the world, and we'll build on the progress that we made with today's Cherokee and we launch that in the first half next year as well, so 2018 will be a very important year for the brand," he said at the Los Angeles Auto Show last month.

The 2019 Jeep Cherokee is scheduled to premiere at the Detroit motor show on Jan. 16, 2018.
