Ford has announced the 2019 Mustang Bullitt just in time for the 50th anniversary of the Steve McQueen-starrer, "Bullitt." The new limited-edition vehicle is based on the 1968 Mustang GT featured in the thriller film's now-iconic 10-minute car chase on the streets of San Francisco.

Unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit this week, the 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt makes a powerful impression with an upgraded 5.0-liter V8 engine that is good for at least 475 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. This allows for a top speed of 163 miles per hour (mph).

"This new Bullitt is, as Steve McQueen was, effortlessly cool. As a designer, it's my favorite Mustang — devoid of stripes, spoilers and badges. It doesn't need to scream about anything — it's just cool," said Darrell Behmer, Mustang chief designer.

The 2019 Mustang Bullitt features a Dark Highland Green exterior paint color — just like in the movie. However, customers can also opt for Shadow Black. Both color options are accompanied by exterior chrome accents.

Other movie-inspired elements include a black front grille, 19-inch aluminum wheels, red-painted Brembo brakes and the manual transmission's white cue ball shift knob for the gear shifter. With minimal badging, only the Bullitt logo on the circular faux gas cap is seen in the exterior.

The bespoke Mustang GT also comes with an active valve performance exhaust system with Black NitroPlate pipes, an Open Air Induction System and the Shelby GT350's intake manifold. The GT Premium and Performance Package also come standard.

Meanwhile, the interior features a leather-trimmed cabin with green accent stitching on the dashboard, center console, door panels and seats. Standard features include a heated leather steering wheel and a 12-inch digital LCD instrument cluster with a special welcome screen that features an image of the Bullitt instead of the standard pony displayed on standard 2018 Mustangs.

Available options include Recaro black leather-trimmed seats, Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert, a MagneRide semi-active suspension system and the Bullitt Electronics Package — which comes with navigation and memory function for the driver's seat and mirrors.

The 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt will be available at dealers starting this summer. Pricing has not yet been announced.
