This year, Smart is celebrating a decade of sales in the United States. To commemorate the special occasion, Mercedes-Benz is offering the 2018 Smart Fortwo 10th Anniversary Edition for a limited time.
The commemorative model features an exclusive Sapphire Blue Metallic exterior paint that extends to the vehicle's Tridion safety cell and front grille, thus giving the hatchback city car a monochrome look. There is also "10th Anniversary" badging to distinguish the limited-edition vehicle from the standard Fortwo Electric Drive models.
The 10th Anniversary Edition also gains a more aggressive appearance thanks to 16-inch Brabus Monoblock VIII wheels in Matte Anthracite Gray. The Sport Package, an option that comes standard, adds Brabus components such as a leather-wrapped multifunction sports steering wheel, shift lever knob and handbrake handle as well as a sports suspension, stainless-steel sports pedals and floor mats with custom stitching.
The 2018 Smart Fortwo Electric Drive is powered by a three-phase synchronous motor and a 17.6-kWh lithium-ion battery. The electric powertrain produces a combined output of 80 horsepower and 118 pound-feet of torque. The hatchback city car can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour (mph) in 11.4 seconds. It has an electric range of 58 miles and a top speed of 81 mph.
When using a 120V/12A charger, the 2018 Smart Fortwo Electric Drive can be charged in about 16.5 hours. However, using 1240V/32A fast charger cuts down the charging time to just three hours. A wallbox charger, meanwhile, provides up to 80 percent battery capacity in 2.5 hours.
The 10th Anniversary Edition will be available as a $1,950 option for the Passion and Prime trims of the 2018 Smart Fortwo Electric Drive in the coupe body style. The standard model has a starting price of about $25,000.
The 2018 Smart Fortwo 10th Anniversary Edition will be available to purchase following its U.S. premiere at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next week.
