BMW's next generation of 5 series along with the 5-series GT wagon will use the 35up platform lightweight scalable architecture that the company launched on 2014. The platform aims to lighten the weight of the car and lose up to 100 kilogramsin weight for higher acceleration. This will allow the 5 series to perform at a much faster rate and could turn for bends with a relatively sharper swivel.

The mid-sized sedan sports high-strength steel, high percentage of carbon fiber and aluminium mechanisms. 5 series is the second succession of car based on the 35up platform, the first being the BMW 7 series.

It transferred the semiautonomous driving features of the 7-series to the 5-series which are the Aw, M high-performance, and diesel and hybrid variations, to keep up with the Mercedes-Benz E class sedan.

Videos and pictures alike of the BMW 5 Series Touring G31 circulated around the net showing Alpina testing the G31 at Nürburgring, also known as Green Hell, giving the model a full run of the course and sports a relatively good performance. BMW and Alpina, its tuning company, exhibited self-assurance sporting the model around the infamous motorsports complex.

Alpina will also launch their own set of 5 series with their latest B5 Touring that is inspired with the M5 Touring. According to an article by CarScoops, Alpina will likely launch their series after BMW released their 5-series which could be on late 2017 or on early 2018.

The new B5 Touring will likely be composed of a customary Alpina body frame with a few minor changes in terms of appearance of a front spoiler, rear bumper, quad exhaust pipe with a 4.4-liter twin turbo V8 engine providing around 600 PS in the next-gen model, per CarSports.

The new BMW 5 series was pushed back in tis release and was expected to launch at the Detroit Auto Show in early 2017.
