Peter Capaldi's days as the Time Lord in "Doctor Who" may soon be over. The actor, who started playing the Twelfth Doctor in August 2013, has hinted that "Doctor Who" season 10 might be his last.
"This could be my final year – it's terrifying," the actor admitted to Telegraph during an interview about the recently aired Christmas special of the beloved sci-fi series titled "The Husbands of River Song."
"I love 'Doctor Who' but it can be quite an insular world and I do want to do other things," the actor said.
Capaldi also recognizes that the stint, no matter how epic and fun, will meet its end.
"I knew that when I started. I was thinking about my regeneration scene from the outset. That's my terrible melancholic nature. When you accept the job you know there'll come a day, inevitably, when you'll be saying goodbye," he further explained.
As pointed out by E! Online, Capaldi is the oldest actor to portray the iconic role. He acknowledged that not everyone was happy about him landing the job but he maintains that "Doctor Who" is not all about "young, sexy guys" and that every doctor should be "different from the last one."
There's not much news about "Doctor Who" season 10. The previous season was a great run with fans commending each episode in the season. The stellar Christmas special is still a subject of many articles and conversations mainly for River Song's death.
Speaking of River Song, her essayer Alex Kingston was asked about the possibility of a female Doctor taking the torch after "Doctor Who" season 10. The actress admitted to The Guardian that she "can't imagine" the Time Lord as a woman because "too many men have played that role [already]."
