'Daredevil' season 3 spoilers: Vincent D'Onofrio teases Kingpin's return will 'blow fans away'

Vincent D'Onofrio will return as Wilson "Kingpin" Fisk in "Daredevil" season 3. Although he could delve much into the specifics, the actor recently teased what is in store for his character now that there is a new showrunner on board the Netflix series.

As reported in October, "The Man in the High Castle" executive producer Erik Olsen has taken over the showrunning duties from Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez who, in turn, stepped in for Steven DeKnight in the second season. That means significant changes, especially for D'Onofrio's character, are in order.

In a recent interview with Collider, the actor specifically teased the new season is bringing Kingpin in an interesting direction — one that sees him grow, adapt, and evolve.

"It's hard to top the first season, with Steven DeKnight's writing, but Erik Oleson is a very good writer. I've shot some pretty cool scenes so far. It's different, but it's very Fisk. It's still very emotional," he said, adding, "The character is evolving. His whole deal is based on emotion, so we're taking him down that role further."

The new season also comes with "new focuses and new goals" for Fisk. As to what exactly those are is something fans should tune in for, but D'Onofrio says all they are doing will surely "blow fans away."

"We've already shot some things that are just going to be neat for the fans," he continued, explaining, "There's some awesome things that are very much in the history of Fisk and Daredevil, that people have been waiting for. We've already put some of that stuff in the can, and there's a lot more to do. I think they're gonna be very happy."

So far, the word is "Daredevil" season 3 would be based on the classic storyline "Born Again." Created by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli, that story sees Karen Page, played by Deborah Ann Woll in the show, disclosing Daredevil's real identity to her heroin dealer. The secret eventually reaches Fisk who effectively makes Matt Murdock's life a living hell. This drives the titular vigilante mad to the point that he questions his own insanity until his sister, Maggie, saves him.

"Daredevil" season 3 has no release date yet, but it is expected to hit Netflix sometime next year.
