5 Psalms to give you strength in times of need

The Bible tells us that the joy of the Lord is our strength. But more than just His joy, God Himself is our strength that enables us to tackle any difficulty or challenge with a grateful and hopeful heart.

Yet there are times when we feel that the challenges we face are too strong for us. Still, the Bible proves true: we can find strength in times of need when we turn to the Lord.

Are you praying to the Lord for strength in trying times? Here are some Psalms that you can meditate on to find the help that you need when the going gets tough.

Psalm 121:1-8 – "I will lift up my eyes to the hills— From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper; The Lord is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore."

Psalm 46:1-3 – "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though its waters roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah."

Psalm 28:6-8 – "Blessed be the Lord, because He has heard the voice of my supplications! The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song I will praise Him. The Lord is their strength, and He is the saving refuge of His anointed."

Psalm 18:1-3 – "I will love You, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies."

Psalm 118:5-9, 14 – "I called on the Lord in distress; The Lord answered me and set me in a broad place. The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me? The Lord is for me among those who help me; Therefore I shall see my desire on those who hate me. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes ... The Lord is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation."
