Although Rockstar Games already confirmed that there will indeed be a sequel to its breakaway title "Red Dead Redemption," the developer has yet to provide concrete details about the title. The only definite clue to the sequel is that Rockstar Games wants the title to evolve into a franchise and that a new installment is only the start in "Red Dead Redemption" becoming a continuous series.

Meanwhile, speculations continue to float online, and the latest off the rumor mills suggest that fans will not have that long to wait for 'Red Dead Redemption 2." Apparently, the sequel will appear in the latter part of 2016.

According to Crossmap, supposed leaked information mentioned that although they won't confirm it, Rockstar Games has been working on "Red Dead Redemption 2" for some time now. Allegedly, the sequel has already been planned and started after the original title rolled out, and the sequel has been in development for more than three years now. In addition, the leak also suggests that "Red Dead Redemption 2" has a 2016 target release, possibly by October.

While the industry follower said that there is no confirmation of the rumor, the leaked details were supposedly from an ex-Rockstar employee, and aside from the time frame of the release, leaked details also say the official title of the sequel is "Read Dead Redemption 2: Legends of the West."

Meanwhile, Vine Report added to the 2016 release date speculations, saying that recent reports placed Rockstar Games to be actively looking for a network programmer specializing in open-world gameplay.

Although this does not confirm that Rockstar Games is currently working on "Red Dead Redemption 2," (as the developer also has other open-world franchises under its belt), it means that the company continues to be active in game development, and is working on a game at the moment.
