American preacher and motivational speaker DeVon Franklin is encouraging people to figure out who they are as individuals first before jumping into a relationship.

On his Instagram account (@devonfranklin), Franklin shared a short video of himself talking about relationships. "When you don't have a clear idea of who you are and a sense of individual self, you then will allow yourself to be subjected to the madness of dating, and it will control you instead of you having control over it," he says.

Franklin then wrote a caption, "You MUST have a clear idea of who YOU are as an individual!"

Franklin's topic came from the book he and his actress wife Megan Good released earlier this year. It is entitled "The Wait: A Powerful Practice for Finding the Love of Your Life and the Life You Love."

In the book, the Hollywood couple share their love story and the benefits couples can get when entering into celibacy. They also offer dating tips that help couples maintain their faith.

When The Christian Post earlier asked why they wrote the book, Good said she has witnessed several marriages deteriorate and she wants to do something about it. She admitted that she used to be terrified of entering into marriage herself. But once she honoured God by avoiding sex before her wedding night, all of her fears were eliminated.

Good was actually surprised that their plan to remain celibate before marriage generated a lot of attention. "We were just candid about it because the more we talked to people about it and the more interest there was in people who desired to do it or were secretly doing it, we realised that it was something that we were supposed to use to help other people. We want people to have the best that God has for them," she says.
