AMD's upcoming flagship GPU solution known as the R9 390X is expected to deliver gaming performance that would overshadow the capabilities of the R9 290X. Given the fact that the upcoming GPU features HBM (high memory bandwidth) instead of the regular GDDR5 video memory type, PC gamers will be able to enjoy the higher frames in upcoming intensive titles. However, according to WCCFtech, the latest specifications leak of the R9 390X show that it will be able to deliver performance that is 60 percent higher compared to the R9 290X.

In addition, it is also expected that the upcoming GPU will feature 8 GB of HBM, but since the memory chips will be stacked in such a manner that they will be exceeding their thermal limits way too often, the R9 390X is rumored to be shipping out in a WCE variant, which is known as the water cooler edition. With the aftermarket cooler, overall temperature inside the chamber of the graphics card will be expected to be below the limit, allowing overclockers and tweakers to gain additional performance out of the graphics processor by forcefully increasing its concerned clock speeds.

The website also states that the R9 390X will feature Tier 3 implementation of Microsoft's DirectX 12 API. In simple terms, what that means is that all the graphical improvements and energy efficiency perks that come bundled with the upcoming API will be displayed effectively by the GPU. AMD has not given word whether or not its lower performing graphic chips will feature Tier 3 implementation of the API, but it has been confirmed that those GPUs will not feature HBM and instead, will continue to run the regular GDDR5 type memory.

AMD is expected to showcase the prowess of the R9 390X at the 2015 Computex event.
