Although limited to China's and India's massive markets, Xiaomi has easily and rapidly become one of the finest smartphone manufacturers in the world despite being the newest player in the game. Just recently, the company announced an event that is set to take place on Feb. 12 in the U.S. — San Francisco to be exact. While many thought that the China-based company may be launching new offerings in the states, sorry to say, this will not be the case.

"We can also confirm that Xiaomi will not be launching in the US or entering the US market this time, but this is an opportunity to get to know the company and leadership a bit more," a Xiaomi PR representative told Android Police, quashing speculations and expectations of market expansion in North America.

Apparently, the event will be the company's means to make its brand known to the rest of the world. While it may not be time for a new device, Uber Gizmo noted that Xiaomi has plans to expand its grip all the way to U.S. However, Feb. 12 will not be the day for that. So it is clear that there won't be any big announcements at the event although Xiaomi President Lin Bin and Global Vice President Hugo Barra will be in attendance in the standalone press conference.

Many media outlets believe that the event is for Xiaomi to instigate talks and discussions with carriers, retailers and various partners, as a tech firm on the rise like Xiaomi will need strong footing to get things going. Android Police believes that Xiaomi could also be skipping shows like the IFA or the MWC to keep all the attention to itself. Lastly, it may be that Xiaomi is hinting its plans to overtake Apple and Google, which have sites not too far away from the venue of the upcoming press conference.
