Xiaomi Mi 5 Plus release date: specs revealed in new leak; device coming July 16 with Mi 5?

Xiaomi is said to be working on a pair of flagships, the Xiaomi Mi 5 and the Mi 5 Plus. For a while now, the devices are rumored to be the best offering from the Chinese startup thus far and the new leak proves that the latter will indeed slaughter just about every flagship there is.

The bigger handset recently swung by TENAA, China's official certification agency. There it was revealed that the device has a 5.7-inch Quad HD display with Gorilla Glass 4 protection. It was also listed to get a 13-megapixel rear-facing shooter and 4-megapixel selfie snapper.

As seen in the leak, Xiaomi Mi 5 Plus will owe its extreme power to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, an upgrade to the 810, which most flagships available in the market have. Lastly, it is said to come in 4GB RAM that's LPDDR4, which is faster, and 64GB of storage space.

Xiaomi recently announced an event on July 16 with a teaser that hints that an ultra-thin, sleek smartphone is on its way. Media outlets believe the Xiaomi Mi 5 and the Mi 5 Plus will be the stars of this affair. This is because their predecessor, the Xiaomi Mi 4, was released on the same month last year.

The common speculations before the teaser emerged is that the upcoming smartphone duo won't be out until September. WCCFtech notes that if these flagships are the subject of the teaser, then it will be quite impossible to see them with Qualcomm Snapdragon 820.

The site says that the brand new iteration for the chipset won't be out until Q4 of this year. If the Xiaomi Mi 5 and Mi 5 Plus will be released in this July 16 event, it is unlikely they will be drawing their power from the processor.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 is tipped to come in a 5.2-inch display, a 16-megapixel and 13-megapixel camera combo and a fingerprint scanner.
