Fabricio Werdum vs Cain Velasquez 2 fight rumors: Rematch to be held at 60,000-seat soccer stadium?

If you caught that previous post, Universal Fighting Championship (UFC) president Dana White has already announced that Fabricio Werdum will make his first title defense against the very same man he faced at UFC 188 — Cain Velasquez.

Velasquez was among the candidates mentioned along with Andrei Arlovski, Junior dos Santos, and Stipe Miocic, even though he was not the priority since it seemed that Werdum wanted payback for his former tormentor Arlovski.

It was Werdum's coach, Rafael Cordeiro, who said that Velasquez deserved a rematch for everything that he has done for the sport. And now White has made that a reality, although there is no word yet on when and where it will take place.

Given the chance to voice out however, Werdum believes that the Arena do Germio in Brazil could be a good place to hold the rematch. The soccer stadium is a 60,000-seat arena in Porto Alegre, Brazil in his hometown.

While the capacity seems to be a daunting capacity to fill up, Werdum believes that he can get more than 50,000 fans there for his first title defense.

Should he stand true to his word, Werdum vs. Velasquez II could shatter the previous record of UFC 129 held at the Rogers Center in Toronto, Canada.

For those who are unaware, this was an event that pitted Georges St-Pierre against Jake Shields. It also featured Jose Aldo who won over Mark Hominick back in April 30, 2011.

As far as the rematch is concerned, Werdum bares that he offered Velasquez an immediate rematch because he had high respects for Velasquez.

"I offered him a rematch after the fight because I respect him like I respected Fedor (Emelianenko)," said Werdum via MMAfighting.com. "Those are the fighters that I respect the most in the MMA world because they show what they can do inside the cage, not by talking. After that, fans started saying Cain didn't deserve a rematch because I dominated him, and I got into it as well. But I respect Cain. He was the best in the world one day, and I will give him a rematch, no problem."

Werdum adds that while there is still no official time and date, all that could very well be known by next week once he meets with White and UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertita.
