UFC news 2015: Fabricio Werdum vs. Cain Velasquez rematch set to be a go

It has been barely two months after Fabricio Werdum won decisively over Cain Velasquez; and now, word is out that the two will face off again.

It was back in June when the two fighters competed against each other at UFC 188 held at the Mexico City Arena. A quick flashback shows Werdum winning via a guillotine choke over Velasquez in the third round.

Now, a part two will reportedly take place after Ariel Harwani and Dana White made the announcement via UFC Tonight on Fox.

The rematch comes a bit of a surprise, considering there were other fighters who were lined up to face Werdum. The list includes Junior Dos Santos, Andrei Arlovski, Stipe Miocic, and Ben Rothwell.

Prior to the announcement, Arlovski seemed to be the likely next opponent of Werdum, largely because the UFC Heavyweight Champion wanted payback. Arlovski won via unanimous decision at UFC 170 in 2007 and Werdum is looking to even the score with the PitBull.

Aside from Arlovski, another name that cropped up was Stipe Miocic, someone who is riding on a win over Mark Hunt during UFC Fight Night 65 as well.

But the name of Velasquez was kept afloat. Many felt that being the legendary UFC fighter that he is, Velasquez deserved a rematch. As mentioned by Rafael Cordeiro via Latinos Post, Velasquez is a former champion and is someone who has contributed immensely to the sport.

Velasquez blamed the high altitude in Mexico City as the reason for his loss to Werdum back in July. Werdum arrived weeks earlier to get himself accustomed to it and apparently the move was a crucial factor to the match.

Werdum's victory stretched his winning streak to six, while Velasquez saw his four-fight winning streak halted.

Leaving all that aside, Velasquez gets a third crack at the heavyweight title. No official date and venue has been set as of this writing.
