The Washington Wizards are looking to do better from hereon after making a good account for themselves in the recent NBA playoffs.
The Wizards ended the regular season with a 46-36 campaign, their best record yet since 1978-79. The team went as far as the second round of the NBA playoffs, dispatching the Toronto Raptors first but eventually bowing to the streaking Atlanta Hawks in six games.
With that showing, the Wizards may have to improve on certain departments to add more depth. The only key figure who may be lost could be forward Paul Pierce, who is reportedly set to reunite with Doc Rivers once he signs up with the Los Angeles Clippers.
Point guard John Wall and shooting guard Bradley Beal are still around but with Pierce's exit, the team may be looking to improve their frontcourt.
Nene, a 13-year veteran, has long been mentioned as someone on the trading block, though the team is not that eager to dispose of the Brazilian cager.
Nene averaged 11.5 points and 5.1 rebounds last season for the Wizards. Though the team may be looking for something more (and someone younger).
An offer to trade involving Nene came out as early as the February trade deadline, but apparently there were no takers. This time, however, the scenario could be different since the seventh overall pick of the 2002 NBA Draft's salary may have already been mostly settled by the Wizards.
Again, the Wizards are in no hurry to trade the Brazilian big man. Apparently interest will not be high at this point, with most teams cramming to see the big men available via free agency. Once the smoke has cleared and most of the rosters are made, any team can consider dealing for Nene at a reasonable price. Which team could that be?
