Episode 9 of season 5 of "The Walking Dead" will go on with Rick Grimes and the group's blind search for survival, which apparently dwells behind a canopy of plague-ridden, flesh-eating walkers. Aptly titled "What Happened and What's Going On," the first episode to air after the hiatus of the AMC original could finally lead the group to a way out.
The synopsis for the episode says it all: "After all the recent trials the group has faced, a slight detour might prove to be the solution they've been looking for."
AMC also released a pair of promotional stills for episode 9. But as Comic Book noted, nothing about the plot is given light with only snaps of Michonne and Rick. However, Josh McDermitt (who plays Eugene Porter) knows beyond doubt that the second half of the series is "weird in a great way."
"The great thing that our writers and producers do is constantly reinventing the show. And they're not doing it out of the need. They're pushing it in an awesome direction, and I love where the show is headed. I think true fans of the show are gonna love it as well, and I think it's also gonna bring in more viewers, more people who maybe previously haven't watched the show. I think they're gonna latch on and get excited about it," the actor told Huffington Post.
In the same interview, McDermitt also shared his take on the claims that Morgan is within spitting distance from the group.
"[As] Morgan kind of showed up to the church in the last episode and he saw the map and everything. The greenery had grown up over some of the vines to show that several months have passed. I don't think that Morgan is around the corner," McDermitt put across after saying that he is "not confident of the details."
Rumors have long indicated Morgan's major participation in the episodes to come for many reasons. Fans with keen vision have spotted a building resembling his home in a previous still (that bears a map and a valiant Rick at the center) AMC released days back. In addition, speculations have always pointed to Alexandria Safe Zone, Morgan's place of abode, as the group's next stop. With the synopsis suggesting a "detour" that allegedly bears a resolution to it all, was it all referring to Morgan?
There is only one way to find out and that is to wait for "The Walking Dead's" return on Feb.8.
