According to Deadline, "True Detective" season 2, which stars Vince Vaughn, Colin Ferrell, Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch, has received criticism from fans and critics. But HBO president of programming Michael Lombardo likes to think that the second season is another one of the network's feats.

Lombardo defended the show's sophomore run during the TV Critics Affiliation, cautioning viewers to reserve their judgement to the end of the season.

He said via Deadline,"I think you need to watch the entirety of it. I think the season's ending is as satisfying as any series we've done."

Fans reportedly think that "True Detective" season 2 is not as good as the first one.

"I feel the present works. I feel it's worthwhile to watch everything of it. I've and I feel it is enormously satisfying," Lombardo said, as quoted by Observer Chronicle

He then largely credited this success to series creator Nic Pizzolatto, who he called one of the "greatest writers working in TV and movement footage at this time." On this juncture, Lombardo revealed that it isn't impossible for "True Detective" season 3 to happen. All it takes is Pizzolatto's nod. If the series creator wants to do another run, the network won't be difficult to convince.

"If he wants to do another season, I said the door is open, we'd like to do another season of it," Lombardo affirmed.

"True Detective" season 2 now on its penultimate episode titled "Black Maps and Motel Rooms," which airs today, Aug. 2 on HBO. Alternatively, it can be watched online through live stream with HBO GO.

The following is a short synopsis of the upcoming episode: "Ray, Ani and Paul take precautionary measures to elude detection and untangle a dark mystery. Frank deals with the fallout of his betrayal."

The eighth and final episode of the season titled "Omega Station" will be aired next week, Aug. 9. Lombardo promised this installment will turn the backlash around and have fans start looking forward to a new season.
