'The Vampire Diaries' season 8 spoilers: Will Stefan save his brother at the cost of Caroline?

"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 will be gracious to Caroline (Candice King) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) and their relationship, but only in the initial part of the show's new and final season.

Speaking to TV Line, King teased that there will be "nice light, steamy moments to get you started" in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8, but that will be about it in terms of the good things coming to Steroline.

"Their relationship will definitely be tested. They have to balance some pretty adult things, in terms of Caroline and Alaric co-parenting these children and having this supernatural blended family," the actress said.

"Also, Stefan is so attached to protecting and saving Damon (Ian Somerhalder). He'll always choose his brother first, and that's going to be a really big thing for this couple," she went on to say.

As revealed by executive producer Julie Plec to Entertainment Weekly, "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 will see Stefan invested in getting to the bottom of the issue and bringing his brother back to normal.

The EP said that Stefan will be "very focused" to save his brother, who, like Enzo (Michael Malarkey), has been stripped of humanity. The new season will see him in a killing spree.

Stefan is hoping that Damon will be all better because if he does not, it could ultimately "impact his ability" to be with Elena (Nina Dobrev) again.

Whether or not it will happen in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 remains to be seen as it is unclear if Dobrev will reprise her role for the show's final season.

However, if Somerhalder had his way, he would not want a Delena reunion as he believes that his character is not good for her, knowing the hardships she went through mostly because of him.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 will premiere on Friday, Oct. 21, at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
