A promo still from "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 episode 3 The CW

Alaric (Matt Davis) will be one step closer to free Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Enzo (Michael Malarkey) from the Sybil's (Nathalie Kelley) deadly control when "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 returns.

For, episode 3, "You Decided That I Was Worth Saving," the father of two will go about his job in the Armory when he stumbles upon an artifact that could potentially save the duo.

However, like all artifacts with such power, it will be a challenge to get to them, so fans should not expect "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 episode 3 being too kind to Alaric in his quest, but this should be a big step.

Meanwhile, the deadly situation brought about by Sybil's terrorizing does not faze both Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Caroline (Candice King) in planning the perfect wedding.

Although the former has not given up on his brother yet, the same cannot be said for the bride-to-be, who has already decided not to invite her future and crazed brother-in-law.

Damon appears to have caught wind of the brewing celebration and did not want to miss one bit of it, leading him to crash Caroline's wedding planning in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 episode 3.

But it looks like the older Salvatore's show of his displease about being overlooked is just one of his agenda. Sybil has instructed him to kill Bonnie (Kat Graham) as well.

The promo for the upcoming episode teases that Damon will follow Sybil and go after his own best friend.

As fans will remember, Bonnie's death will mean Elena (Nina Dobrev) waking up from her deep slumber. Although this is not looking like it will happen soon, if at all, Bonnie will still be in serious danger in this episode.

In addition, the synopsis for "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 episode 3 actually teases that Bonnie will make a "heart wrenching decision involving two of the most important people in her life."

It looks like Bonnie will try to find a way to help Enzo free himself from Sybil's control, but she does so at the same time the villain realizes she is the force that stops her soldier from completely giving up himself.
