'The Sinister Six' release date 2016? movie still in the works despite Spider-Man's swing to Marvel

With Spider-Man's debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe set in stone, the fate of the silver screen invasion of the web-slinger's supervillain squadron known as "The Sinister Six" hangs in the balance.

"A source involved in the movie" told The Wall Street Journal that the supposed Drew Goddard-helmed film is still happening. The catch is that it won't be arriving on time. Sony Pictures has marked Nov. 11, 2016 in the calendar for the premiere of the movie, but with the big changes that were announced yesterday, it is highly likely that this prearranged date will not be followed.

"The Amazing Spider-Man 2" has suggested how much more of his world remains unexplored. This means that apart from a third installment, the franchise can easily touch on the brash and bright superhero's list of persistent enemies, hence making the aims for "The Sinister Six" more solid. The film, which had everyone on tenterhooks with the very thought of it, was even primed to be Sony's counterpart to "Avengers."

According to Cinema Blend, it is important to know that other than the explosive announcement, there should also be considerations on the headship changes happening within Sony, not to mention the repercussions of the studio's hacking months back. The company has so much going on. But the site is positive that when everything gets settled, the coming of "The Sinister Six" will establish itself.

Meanwhile, new details about Spidey's merger with some, if not all, of Earth's mightiest heroes also came about. This new find gives a new insight on where Doctor Octopus and his evil troop's silver screen entrance would go in the wake of Spider-Man's swing to a much larger universe. The same insider cited by The Wall Street Journal claimed that "Captain America: Civil War" will be the introductory movie that will officially integrate Peter Parker and his red and blue-clad alter ego into the Marvel Universe. Also, the source said that Andrew Garfield will no longer play Spider-Man.

Spider-Man plays a central role in the "Civil War" storyline, as played out in the Marvel Comics. In the comic books, Spider-Man is flanked by the clash between Captain America and Iron Man, who came in conflict for their opposing views on the Superhero Registration Act. The former works to abolish the directive that requires superheroes to operate under official regulation (much like police officers) while the latter strongly and blatantly supports the idea.

Ultimately, "The Sinister Six" will have to wait for these dealings to come to pass before Sony plans further about its production. Spider-Man's introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe may likely spawn more collaboration between the two giants. Who knows, Marvel may be helping Sony out with "The Sinister Six."
