'The Sims 4' DLC news: Celebrity-themed content not a high priority

The "City Living" expansion for "The Sims 4" has a whole city waiting to be explored, but it appears that some gamers deemed it not big enough due to its lack of star power.

Fans were hoping that celebrity status and reputation will be some of the elements that San Myshuno will offer, something that Electronic Arts and Maxis were aware of.

In an interview with Twinfinite, Maxis producer Grant Rodiek explained that the focus of the "City Living" downloadable content (DLC) for "The Sims 4" was for players to experience the feeling of leaving home and starting anew in a big city.

"We tried to capture that sense of leaving your home and moving your way up from terrible apartments and terrible landlords and finding the opportunity that the city provides that, say, a small town in Texas might not," he stated.

"We wanted to make the normal feel exciting and aspirational. And we also didn't quite understand fully why our players were sort of frustrated by this celebrity stuff in the past. And so, we wanted to do something different, and we didn't want to step into a landmine of making a mistake that wasn't going to make our players happy," Rodiek went on to say.

Some gamers were frustrated about how the celebrity themes in "The Sims 3," which were the centerpiece of the "Showtime" expansion pack, were handled.

However, it looks like EA and Maxis had no clear understanding as to why and they did not want to risk doing something in "The Sims 4" only to end up aggravating fans again.

Whether or not a celebrity-themed DLC will find its way to "The Sims 4" anytime soon, Rodiek said that "Maybe we could do it differently elsewhere."

However, he emphasized that their focus for now as far as the "City Living" DLC goes is for fans to experience the festivals, the culture and the lifestyle, which are the heart of San Myshuno.
