After seven successful seasons, "The Mentalist" has wrapped things up for good. That goes without saying that Patrick Jane and Teresa Lisbon wrapped up their relationship, too.

The season finale of "The Mentalist" was everything fans hoped for. The team's main villain Red John has finally been captured after hunting him down for several seasons. But most importantly, Jane and Lisbon got married in a solemn and beautiful wedding attended by their closest friends and family.

Deadline was able to talk to "The Mentalist" executive producer Tom Szentgyorgyi where he shared that most of the season finale wasn't really planned out like that from the beginning.

The show's romantic ending wasn't pre-determined, but Szentgyorgi added, "But we knew as the end of season six unfolded — as it became clear that Jane was going to tell Lisbon that he loved her in that season's finale — that if CBS gave us another season, we would spend it exploring the ramifications of Jane's declaration."

Moreover, wrapping up Red John's storyline was uncertain for Bruno Heller and Szentgyorgi. But when Peter Roth of Warner Bros. TV told them that they have to wrap up the storyline and move on because it wasn't sustaining anymore, that's when they decided to write a proper ending.

Deadline continued to ask what's next for the newlyweds? Szentgyorgyi said that Lisbon will work even when she's pregnant and will continue to do so until two weeks before she gives birth. As for Jane, he doesn't think he will come back to work for the FBI.

What about Agent Cho, one of the characters who has grown in popularity over the seasons, will there be a spin-off for him? Szentgyorgyi said no.

Elsewhere, TVLine also had a chat with actress Robin Tunney and show creator Bruno Heller. When the two were asked how they want "The Mentalist" to be remembered, this is what they said:

"I think hopefully they'll be remembered for breathing new air into a genre that people were really familiar with," said Tunney.

"I'll just be happy if it's remembered... Beyond that, it's up to the people who remember it. But I'll remember it as the happiest professional time of my life," Heller said.

Surely, fans wish to thank "The Mentalist" for the outstanding seven seasons it has shared with the world.
