Naughty Dog has put the sequel of its outstanding 2013 action-adventure survival horror video game "The Last of Us" "on ice" to focus on "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End," the refresh of its third-person shooter platform video game series, "Uncharted." The upcoming PS4-exclusive is taking all the attention away from "The Last of Us 2," which has most gamers at the edge of their seats after the sweeping success of the original.
Cinema Blend finds it a bit bizarre that Naughty Dog did not immediately follow up the insanely well-received title, which sold 6 million copies excluding the remastered version. The site then concluded that the studio may only be fortifying the already massive hype that surrounds the title, a lucrative scheme that can have it net heaps of sales in a time the fans are all raring to get it.
Developers Bruce Straley and Neil Druckmann know the anxiety that waiting gamers have for another "The Last of Us" installment, which led them to also assure the future of "The Last of Us 2."
"We totally get it, because we have those same feelings [about The Last of Us] as well," Druckmann told Game Informer. "We have brainstormed sequel ideas for The Last of Us, and we've brainstormed ideas for new games, but all of that is put on ice right now while we work on Uncharted 4."
The pair also gave surety of awesome Nathan Drake missions in "Uncharted 4," guaranteeing that the game will be distinct to "The Last of Us."
"We're 110 per cent in Uncharted 4 territory now. Blinders on, make this awesome," Druckmann said. "We're not gonna make it too dark. Everybody calm down, just take a breath. We're retaining all the light-heartedness: it's Nathan Drake. Any project with Nolan North in it, it can't get too dark."
Den of Geek iterated that the game, at the moment, is still a "big if." Druckmann is working on writing the "The Last of Us" film.
"Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" is scheduled for release to the PS4 this year so Naughty Dog will have 2015 all to Nathan Drake and his adventures.
