All eyes and ears are now on the cast and characters of period drama "The Crown," as it is set to return in less than two weeks.

The Netflix series' highly anticipated second installment is set to explore the years 1956–1964 in the controversial lives of the British monarchs, including Prince Philip's (Matt Smith) infamous philandering.

While its freshman year showed Queen Elizabeth's (Claire Foy) road to the crown, the sophomore year will delve more into the leadership struggles of being a queen, at the same time the British public is questioning the need for a monarch. It would not help that her husband Prince Philip is out for his Commonwealth tour, hooking up with various women along the way.

The royals recently walked the red carpet at Leicester Square's Odeon in London, where the cast talked about what to expect from the next season.

"You think you know the story, but you actually don't know the story," Smith told reporters. He added that the prince's story is "compelling." It also makes the second season "difficult to watch" as it touches on sensitive family issues.

It will also showcase Princess Margaret's (Vanessa Kirby) party persona, after she is forced to break off her wedding with divorcee Peter Townsend (Ben Miles). She gets married to photographer Tony Armstrong-Jones instead.

"It's the beginning of the great party for Margaret... I think you begin to see the Margaret that is more known publicly," Miles said.

Adding color to the characters is new face Billy Jenkins, who will play the role of school-boy Prince Charles. The 10-year-old actor was more than ready for the red carpet, as he took charge of interviewing his older co-stars.

He jokingly asked his queen mother, Foy, what he should do differently when he gets to be the king in his grown-up years.

"I think you should make break dancing compulsory for everybody... in schools... And lots of chocolate and biscuit and cake-eating," Foy joked as the two both laughed.

"The Crown" season 2 starts streaming on Netflix on Dec. 8.
