'The Blacklist' season 2 spoilers: Red badly hurt, Liz to find Nicholas Caul in episode 19

Since the Post Office was taken over in season 1, Red hasn't faced any grave life threats, that is until season 2 episode 18. In "Vanessa Cruz," Red was fatally shot, which was the cliffhanger of the episode. After a couple of weeks, the show returns and episode 19 picks up right where it left off.

Episode 19 is titled "Leonard Caul" and the official synopsis goes:

As Red fights for his life, he pleads with Liz (Megan Boone) to track down Nicholas Caul — a mysterious figure from his past with knowledge of The Fulcrum. It's a race against time for the task force to locate Caul before Red's life is threatened again, while Tom (Ryan Eggold) proves helpful in an unexpected way."

Now that Red is in critical condition, Liz has to step up her game. He is a valuable asset to the FBI and now that he is badly hurt, she and the agency have to hustle and find this man.

In "The Blacklist," any episode where there is a big threat to Red's life is always an intense one. Although it is quite impossible for the main star to simply die, the near-death situation causes a lot of drama indeed.

Creator Jon Bokencamp spoke to TVLine about the return of the show and it's last few episodes, and he said, "We pick up immediately, in the moments of the shooting. Dembe was being shot at, and Red's bleeding on the ground, clearly wounded in a horrible way. [Red's condition] creates a void, and Liz is going to have to step up and fill the space that is occupied by Red and work through this situation."

Meanwhile, further spoilers point to Liz also looking up her past. She discovers a photo in Red's place, which fuels her to investigate more. Red and Liz haven't been in the best of terms lately, but it will be exciting to see how their relationship would be by the end of the season.

Catch episode 19 of "The Blacklist" season 2 on April 23 on NBC.
