'The Amazing Spider-Man' 3 still in the works? Will the movie ever happen?

 The Amazing Spider-Man

Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures are undoubtedly busy, not only with Spider-Man's stint alongside other superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but also conceptualizing the next independent Spidey film. There have been many speculations regarding the latter, and one part of the guessing game is the fate of "The Amazing Spider-Man" film series.

Just recently, news about "The Amazing Spider-Man 3" resurfaced after earlier reports claimed that the franchise featuring Andrew Garfield in the lead role will be cut short. The newest development claims that the franchise is still alive, and it might still feature Garfield as Peter Parker. The other actor who is expected to reprise his role for the film is Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn.

Conversely, Ecumenical News claims that Garfield might not be tapped to portray the role of Spider-Man in the next film. There is no confirmation about this information at the moment, however.

Meanwhile, Clevver Movies reported that "Divergent" actress Shailene Woodley is willing to reprise her role as Mary Jane for the film if asked. According to the actress, she still has not heard about the news that Sony Pictures is planning to come up with the third installment for the franchise, but if she will be called to return for the role, she would gladly agree.

Although the casting news has not been confirmed by either Marvel or Sony Pictures, Deadline Hollywood reported that both film outfits are in talks with "The Cabin In The Woods" director Drew Goddard to helm the next installment in the "Spider-Man" franchise. There are no concrete details about the negotiations, but Goddard's participation in the film might possibly happen.
