Indie video game "Super Meat Boy" is coming to Nintendo Switch in January.

First released in 2010, the cult classic plans to make a huge comeback by joining the roster of games in the very successful gaming console, which reportedly ramped up production for 2018 following its high demand and sales since it was released last March.

Game developer Team Meat announced the good news as a Christmas gift on Dec. 24 over at Twitter. Based on the caption, "Wanna race?" and the photo with the Switch screen split in half, fans predict there would be a locally based competition mode, where each player must challenge a different level as quickly as possible.

With the JoyCons sitting on the opposite side of the screen, looks like the new mode would be more focused on local multiplayer. Online compatibility can be seen as well.

Team Meat later commented that the move to Switch would include a Race Mode, something that the developers have wanted to try out for seven years. "We figured the Switch was a good time to test it out. It's fun," Team Meat said.

Before moving to Switch, "Super Meat Boy" has been making its way across various gaming consoles -- Xbox 360, Xbox One (via backward compatibility), and the PlayStation sets.

Its arrival on Switch on Jan. 11, 2018 will precede the sequel "Super Meat Boy Forever," which is slated to launch later in the year across Switch, PS4, Xbox One, PC, and mobile.

According to Team Meat, "Super Meat Boy Forever" is a much more challenging version of its prequel, and players are bound to "die... a lot." This second installment still features main character Meat Boy and his love Bandage Girl, with a tiny addition -- their newborn baby named Nugget. Villain Dr. Fetus, however, kidnaps their baby and the players' mission will be to rescue her amid progressively difficult challenges.
