It's as if "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens" is not exciting enough, Disney now wants to make everyone's thrill reach fever pitch. The company just dished out details about its future plans on more intergalactic adventures and mayhem by announcing an upcoming "Star Wars" film.

Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger was swollen with pride as he announced the development of a "Star Wars" standalone film titled "Rogue One." Disney is working to enrich the legendary franchise with the forthcoming film, which features new and different characters within the "Star Wars" universe but outside of the trilogy.

The concept of the film was drawn out from the imagination of John Knoll, who is hailed as the Academy Award-winning visual effects expert and chief creative officer at Industrial Light & Magic. While fans know who to thank for the creation of "Rogue One," the news is still too fresh out of the oven to scoop a thing or two about the actual storyline Knoll developed and Disney is well proud of.

What's sure is that "Rogue One" is a rock-solid project of the studio, with most of the people to work on it already determined. The first actress confirmed to join the movie is Felicity Jones, and Disney did not forget to mention that the actress is an owner of an Oscar trophy for her performance in "The Theory of Everything." This is its way of saying that "Rogue One" will be of meteoric proportions and the people that will make it up will be nothing short of stellar.

"Godzilla" director Gareth Edwards will helm the film while Chris Weitz, who wrote the screenplay for the recently premiered "Cinderella," will be in charge of the screenplay.

The "Star Wars" spinoff is scheduled to be released in December next year. Filming will commence this summer so fans can expect more information about "Rogue One" in the coming months.

After "Rogue One" blasts into theaters, Disney will bring out "Star Wars: Episode VIII," which is set to hit the big screen in May 26, 2017.

But first things first. The celestial journey will be reignited by "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens," launching on Dec. 18.
