'Spider-Man' movie rumors: 'Ender's Game' star Asa Butterfield the next Peter Parker?

This week, a bunch of reports about Marvel and Sony's reboot of the "Spider-Man" franchise surfaced, and they touched on the movie's potential title as well as the actor who will likely portray the ever-growing role of the web-slinger when it lands on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The highly-anticipated solo film of the wise-cracking superhero is rumored to be titled "Spider-Man: The New Avenger." Although not backed up, this designation heavily accentuates on the fact that Spider-Man has now arrived in his home and that the Marvel continuity is further in place.

Naming the film "Spider-Man: The New Avenger" also ricochets to the first "Captain America" movie, which was given the subtitle "The First Avenger." This speculation replaces previous rumors that the film will be titled "The Spectacular Spider-Man," changing the "amazing" description Sony used.

Meanwhile, 18-year-old "Ender's Game" star Asa Butterfield is said to be the next Spider-Man, with the movie to focus on the life of a high-schooler Peter Parker. Cinema Blend suggests that he could pass for someone younger than his real age, which makes him all the more fit for the job.

Said to be handpicked by Marvel and Sony from a group of four other actors in their shortlist, Butterfield reportedly bested Nat Wolff ("The Fault in Our Stars"), Tom Holland ("The Impossible"), Timothee Chalamet ("Homeland") and Liam James ("The Way, Way Back") who were all allegedly considered "strong contenders" for the role.

Nevertheless, it definitely won't be long before fans finally learn which actor really snagged the "Spider-Man" role or if Butterfield is the one who would be playing it. After all, Marvel and Sony have to set this important bit in stone immediately as the superhero will appear in "Captain America: Civil War," which will start production very soon.

The "Spider-Man" movie will come out on July 27, 2017 and it is rumored that "Cabin in the Woods" director Drew Goddard, who was also tapped to direct the upcoming "Sinister Six" movie, will write and direct the much-awaited film that will officially bring Spider-Man to his universe.
