The Japanese technology and entertainment company, Sony, is looking to expand on publishing other video games. Particularly, they have expressed an interest in publishing games for the Nintendo Switch. These plans by Sony is in line with their publishing of a label dubbed Unties, which is a project of Sony Music Entertainment. If the two Japanese companies team up, what does this mean for the future of gaming?

In a report by Gamespot, the video game "Tiny Metal" is a game whose music is being worked on by Sony's Unties music arm. "Tiny Metal" is developed by Area35, and is an independent game that is turn-based with Japanese anime inspirations. The game is slated to arrive on the Nintendo Switch, the PC, and the PlayStation 4. Of course, it is just one of the other projects that is in the pipeline born out of the collaboration between Nintendo and Sony.

It is notable to mention that the next three project that involves Unties are indie game projects, whose aim is to achieve the standards of the conventional games that players are so used to in this day and age. According to IGN, Unties is a separate entity of Sony, and also has two games that are planned for release on the PC, as well as the PS4 with PlayStation virtual reality (VR) compatibility features.

The whole purpose of the Unties Company is to be able to make high quality indie games available to players so that they do not get lost in the mix of all the rapid releases in the market today, as Engadget stated.

Due to the main commercial focus of Sony, perhaps the heads of the company realized that it is beneficial to invest in indie games since there is definitely a market for these types. According to Polygon, this is not the first time that Sony has reached out a helping hand towards Nintendo. Sony had aided Nintendo a long time ago in publishing games for the Super Nintendo, or the SNES during the time of the original PlayStation console.
