Sony Online Store closing shop on August 28, 2015

 Sony Online Store

For those who have been making purchases via Sony's Online Store, it may be time to look for alternative sites.

Sony has made an announcement that they will be closing their online store on Aug. 28, 2015 at 1 p.m. PST (4 p.m. EST).

The company made the announcement via email and through a notice posted on their website advising customers to make any planned purchases and to use gift cards at the online store as soon as they can.

However, it appears that the impending online store closure will only temporary since Sony also stated that they will be unveiling a new online product showcase and more ways to shop.

From the way that Sony put it, it looks like the company is simply planning to renovate the site and offer a more advanced online shop. While that is in mind, there is the question on when this new site would come out and if it will offer the same kind of products that the soon-to-be closed site has made available.

No reason was provided for the sudden planned closure of Sony's online site, although some users via Reddit were not surprised by it from happening. For example, there are some who weren't even aware that a Sony Online Store even existed.

The fact that many people do not know about the site implies that Sony has shortcomings as far as establishing its presence online is concerned. And hopefully, the alleged new site (whenever it goes live) will be better and of course useful for users and buyers of Sony's line of products.

The Sony Online Store is still up as of this writing and judging by the way it was designed, Sony can definitely do better. Anyone interested may still visit the store and check out the products that are still available for online purchase.
