Samsung Galaxy S8 release date, specs rumors: Flagship phone to be released earlier due to Note7 fiasco?

It was previously rumored that the Samsung Galaxy S8 could be announced in late February. Now, there are rumors that this could happen much earlier because of the massive battery recall for the Galaxy Note7.

Kim Sang-pyo, an analyst at the Korean firm, KB Investment and Securities, suggested that the South Korean tech giant could possibly consider launching their next product earlier in order to remedy the fallout from the Galaxy Note7 issue. Samsung has already lost a huge amount of money because of the battery recall, and the company may not be able to make up for it before the end of the year.

Kim said to Korean Herald: "Smartphone demands have polarized: advanced and emerging markets, and premium and budget phones. If Samsung's flagship smartphone launch is delayed to the end of the first quarter of next year, the profitability of the mobile business division could be worsened next year."

"Regardless of the sales resumption, an earlier launch of a new quality flagship model seems to be the most realistic solution to dealing with the current recall crisis," Kim added.

With regards to the specifications, the Samsung Galaxy S8 is rumored to sport a 5.5-inch AMOLED screen with 4K and 806 ppi display screen properties. An Iris scanner will surely come along, as well as a dual-rear camera, with 12 and 13 MP sensor made by Sony, and an 8 MP forward-facing one. A 6 GB of RAM could also be in the package.

SamMobile has learned that there are two model numbers for the upcoming flagship phone. These are SM-G950 and SMG-G55, suggesting that Samsung is working on at least two Galaxy S8 models. Interestingly, the company is said to be skipping the SM-G940 model name because of Tetraphobia. South Koreans are said to be superstitious about the fourth number. It is said to bring bad luck.

Samsung is known to release their flagship phones a short while before the yearly Mobile World Congress event. It may have to skip the coming one because it may launch its products earlier, given the current circumstances.
