Samsung Galaxy S8 release date, rumors: Exynos 9 powering handset instead of 8890?

The Samsung Galaxy S8 is poised to show off the next-generation Exynos 9 processor from the South Korean tech giant. Previous reports suggested that the Exynos 8890 chipset will be the one under the hood of the flagship, but the latest news suggests this will not be the case.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 could be the most important smartphone that Samsung will ever build as it will be the device tasked to restore the confidence of fans in the brand after the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 fiasco.

Samsung is pulling all the stops to make this handset a knockout, which could be why the Samsung Galaxy S8 might end up with the chipsets from the Exynos 9 series instead.

The Exynos 8890 chipset is already formidable in itself as it will be the first processor to use the 10-nanometer FinFET technology, which will bring about insane boosts in performance and efficiency. It is rumored to increase the image processing of the device by 70-percent.

But if the Samsung Galaxy S8 will come with the Exynos 9 powering it up, there will be more benefits to reap as the processor is rumored to feature the Shannon 359 modem.

Its defining feature is that it will support all networks bands. These include FDD-LTE, TD-LTE, TD-SCDMA, WCDMA, CDMA2000, CDMA, and GSM.

However, Softpedia says that the Shannon 359 modem might not be seen in action in the Samsung Galaxy S8 after all as it will not be ready anytime soon.

It is not expected to be available until fall next year, so the 2018 smartphone offerings of Samsung will likely be the ones to debut it instead of the Samsung Galaxy S8.

In other news, The Korea Herald (through its publication The Investor) is reporting that Samsung Galaxy S8 will come with a bigger variant with a 6.2-inch display.

The standard 5.1-inch screen will also be reportedly bumped to 5.7 inches so that users who were affected by the Note 7 disaster will find it as a replacement for the device.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 is expected to be released next year.
