Galaxy S6 release date, specs and features: Samsung hopes to rebound from S5 with new flagship phone

Samsung is expected to reveal its new line of products this coming March 1 in their regular annual event. And from the looks of it, the phones that stand to be unraveled will be the much awaited Samsung Galaxy S6.

Formal invitations have been sent out last Monday and Samsung is hoping that the event will help them regain lost ground after a not so profitable run last year. And with the anticipated release of the Samsung Galaxy S6, two versions could come out and that may possibly be the Samsung Galaxy S Edge.

Apparently the conspicuously curved invitation was what led to these assumptions but all that remains to be unofficial until the big day on March 1.

In all, Samsung is pinning its hopes that the event will somehow help the company recover from a poor smartphone sales performance last year. Samsung saw its sales drop last year and are hoping that their new plethora of devices can somehow cover lost ground.

There are a lot of rumored improvements for the Samsung Galaxy S6. It will reportedly come in two versions, a flat screen version and an Edge version. For the Edge version, the device will reportedly wraps around one or both sides of the device.

As far as the general features are concerned, this could include an improved screen resolution of 1440x2560 pixels, a 20 megapixel rear camera and a front-facing 5MP camera. All these are expected to be backed by a more powerful Exynos octa-core processor and of course a vastly improved overall phone design.

Would this be enough to keep Samsung abreast with their competitors such as HTC and LG? All that stands to be answered once the Mobile World Congress comes around.
