Rumors: Manny Pacquiao considering running for president in 2022

Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao has been known to take on multiple tasks at once. He fights, sings and is into politics. For the record, Pacquiao serves as a congressman in the Philippines and it is no secret that he plans to run for Senator once the Philippine national elections are held in 2016.

Arum did mention Pacquiao's plans but went on further to add that Pacquiao could possibly go as far as run for President with 2022 at the earliest possible time.

Pacquiao has been notorious in the past, wanting to do a lot of things at once. Hence, hearing about his plans despite the fact that he needs to focus on his upcoming match against Floyd Mayweather Jr. could become a distraction on his part.

It will be recalled that Manny ventured into show business, ran for politics and boxed at the same time before. Ever since he did all of those things, Pacquiao was accused of losing his focus. His killer instinct was put in question and while many are still impressed with his speed, he seen by many as no longer the same Pacquiao who can dominate fighters and knock them out.

Nevertheless, Pacquiao can do whatever he wants – including target his country's highest governing position.

Questions do crop up though on whether Pacquiao could win by 2022 or later. His countrymen love him but it seems doubtful that they love him that much to see him leading the Filipino nation.

And while that is far off, such has become a sidelight of his coming bout with Floyd Mayweather Jr. where he is a 1-2 underdog. Many believe Manny can stand up to Mayweather and possibly hand the undefeated American his first career defeat.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao are set to face off on May 2, 2015 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in what is billed by many as the fight of the century.
